There will be some alterations made to the Barcelona squad during the summer transfer window, with a handful of exits and a few incomings expected.

There will be a few players that are likely to leave of their own volition in search of game-time while the club could be forced into selling one or two top names to generate revenue.

And, out-of-favour midfielder Oriol Romeu could end up falling in the first category.

Barcelona believe Romeu will ask to leave

Indeed, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona believe that Oriol Romeu will ask to leave the club during the summer transfer window despite having time left on his contract.

Romeu signed for Barcelona only last summer, arriving from Girona for a nominal fee. Brought in to fill the void left by Sergio Busquets, the Spaniard started off well but has seen his stock nosedive since.

Romeu has fallen out of favour under Xavi Hernandez in the past few months, with the likes of Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Sergi Roberto, and Ilkay Gundogan preferred ahead of him in the pivot midfield position.

Given that the Blaugrana intend to sign a new holding midfielder in the summer, Romeu would fall further down the pecking order.

As such, Barcelona believe that he will ask to leave before next season so that he can join a club where he will play regularly.

Romeu has suitors

Romeu has a few suitors for him if he does indeed decide to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

The Spaniard’s former employers, Girona, for one, would jump at the opportunity to re-sign him just a year after parting ways with him.

Meanwhile, Romeu also has suitors in Turkey in the form of Besiktas, although he is not entirely keen on leaving Spain at the moment.
