As Barcelona fans bid farewell to the promise of Marc Guiu, who has joined Chelsea for a fee of €6m, it has emerged that another of their promises could leave on the cheap this summer. Alex Valle spent last season on loan at Levante, but is expected to do a second preseason in a row with the first team.
The 20-year-old left-back is expected to be assessed by Hansi Flick to see if he wants to keep him in the first team, with only Alejandro Balde and Hector Fort as options there at the moment. MD say that his release clause is just €8m currently, but that it will drop to a bargain €3m if he is not promoted to the first team by the first of August. If he is registered as a senior player, Valle’s release clause will rise to €30m.
Once Flick has made a decision about Valle, they say Barcelona will try to reach a deal with Valle either for an exit or for a contract extension, but it would be simple enough for an interested club to wait until his release clause is lowered should he not be part of the first team. Normally it would be simple enough for a side to promote a player and register them to avoid that situation, but Barcelona have faced significant issues in that regard of late.
