In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are keen on recruiting Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic this summer. It is believed that the Catalan club could face competition in the form of Napoli and Inter Milan in the race to land the Serbian talent.

Samardzic’s Impressive Form In Serie A This Season

Samardzic is having a decent campaign at the Italian club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net on three occasions and earned a couple of assists in 25 appearances for Udinese this season across all fronts.

The Berlin-born sensation has been a decent performer in the opponent’s half as he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 1.6 shots, 1.6 key passes, 1.1 crosses and 1.3 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 80.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barca to arrange a cut-price move for him at the end of this campaign.

Should Barcelona Snap Samardzic Up This Summer?

Samardzic is a tough-tackling midfielder who can deliver some accurate crosses into the opponent’s penalty area. He can strike the ball purely and with power from long range and can create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third. The Serbian sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as an attacking midfielder if asked to do so.

We can expect Samardzic to add more firepower to Barcelona‘s midfield department. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons.

At 22, Samardzic has the potential to become a future great in his position someday. Hence, Barca would be wise to go all out to snap him up when the transfer window commences in the summer. However, the Catalan giants would need to be patient with his progress if they want to unlock the best out of the Serbian youngster.
