In a recent report, SPORT brings out a massive piece of news for Barcelona and the club’s faithful – Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has confirmed to Joan Laporta that the club will be able to operate under the financial 1:1 rule this summer.
The news, needless to say, comes as a massive boost to the Blaugrana’s transfer plans as it not only eases registering new signings but also completing pending player renewals like that of Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia.
The journey back to the financial 1:1 rule has been anything but easy for Barcelona, especially with unexpected twists arriving even after it was considered achieved.
Now, finally, the club have closed the previous financial year with enough leverage to secure the return.
The previous financial year ended on June 30th and Joan Laporta declared revenues of €950 million for the year, reasonably above the projected €893 million. Those numbers, in short, gave Tebas enough to sanction the 1:1 return.
Barcelona seemingly returned to the rule a decent time ago, especially after they used the VIP seats of the new Spotify Camp Nou as an economic lever to generate and record a revenue of €100 million.

The new club auditor, however, refused to consider it an income at the time because the seats whose rights were sold to two companies were physically nonexistent at the time. Barcelona, thus, were under pressure to complete the construction before the end of the financial year.
Laporta and Co. thus put pressure on Limak to construct the VIP seats in time, and they have now been completed and have allowed the €100 million lever to be incorporated into Barcelona’s revenue. The return to the 1:1, thus, was secured owing to that development.
The balance sheets are yet to be audited, but Barcelona believe they have enough to secure the much-awaited return officially.
The 1:1 rule is vital for the club’s transfer plans, for it implies that the Catalans can spend one euro for every euro earned, thus giving them far more flexibility in terms of player operations.
After all, Laporta is chasing an ambitious window with Joan Garcia signed, Nico Williams on the radar and several renewals planned.
Space on the financial front is a must. More importantly, it will help the board give Nico the guarantees he demands before signing.
