FC Porto and Barcelona might soon strike a deal involving Vitor Roque, with talks quietly underway between the two clubs, reports A Bola.

This potential deal could serve as a bridge connecting the two teams in a potential player swap, and for that, Porto’s sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, is reportedly orchestrating this move behind the scenes.

On Barcelona’s end, they have their eyes set on Eduardo Gabriel Aquino Cossa, known as Pepe, for the 2024/25 season, deeming him a suitable addition to Xavi’s squad.

However, they are reluctant to meet his €75 million release clause and are exploring the option of including Roque in negotiations so that Porto can budge.

Barcelona are ready to give up on Roque

Barcelona’s proposed plan, advocated by their sporting director Deco, involves loaning Roque to FC Porto with an option to buy.

Roque, known for his intensity and versatility playing as a forward or on the wings, has attracted attention from various European clubs.

However, given his situation at Barcelona, his manager’s criticism of Xavi has fueled the team’s interest in facilitating a move that satisfies all parties.

Porto have financial limitations

Now, Porto acknowledge their financial limitations compared to other European giants pursuing Roque.

However, they possess a valuable asset in Pepe, who interests Barcelona. With Pepe being a consistent performer and a key player for Porto, they value him at no less than €60 million.

Naturally, Porto will aim to negotiate a deal that maximizes their return, possibly by adding performance-based bonuses to the transfer fee.

However, with Barcelona facing similar financial troubles, it would be impossible for them to spend €60 million on the Porto winger. And this is where Roque comes in.

It is no secret that the Brazilian has no place in Barcelona and given Porto’s interest, a potential swap deal could be pursued which is satisfy everyone involved in the operation.
