Earlier this week, we reported that Barcelona were looking for a new sponsor for the first-team shorts as a fresh source of income to boost their Financial Fair Play situation.

The decision to have a sponsor for the shorts was approved during the board meeting earlier this week and now it appears that an agreement has been reached with a company for the same.

Medusa set to become Barcelona’s shorts sponsor

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, ‘Medusa’, a UAE-based company, will become the shorts sponsor for the Barcelona first team.

Medusa is a company that manufactures a surface disinfectant that combines bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal effects.

Medusa offers a market first: surface protection against viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. Their formulations contain the active ingredient DDAC, which is effective against enveloped viruses such as hepatitis B, HIV and avian influenza A.

Contract details

According to MD, the agreement with Medusa is for three seasons, during which the club will earn around €15 million, meaning an income of €5 million per year as was reported last night.

The club’s plan is to show off the sponsorship for the first time at the Joan Gamper Trophy clash against Monaco on 12 August or on the first matchday of La Liga against Valencia on 17 August.

Given the club’s Fair Play situation, any income is a welcome boost and the agreement with Medusa would help Barcelona take another step closer towards achieving the 1:1 rule.
