In European football today, there are not many teams that can claim to be having the kind of season that FC Barcelona is enjoying. Across all of the competitions in which they have participated thus far, La Blaugrana have looked like a force to be reckoned with. Fortunately for Barcelona, this team only looks to get better on from here.
One of the leading forces behind this particular transformation is Robert Lewandowski, who seems to have found his best version again. Across this season so far, he is comfortably leading the scoring charts in La Liga while also fighting for the top spot in the UEFA Champions League.
However, now that the Polish ace is aged 36, there is no guarantee regarding his future and how much of a long-term asset he can be moving forward. Furthermore, a recent update has suggested that he could even be possibly swayed to join another league altogether.
According to Fichajes, the Barcelona ace already has tempting financial offers from the likes of Saudi Arabian clubs and some advances from the American-based MLS as well. These offers, particularly from an economic standpoint, would be considered to be significant ones.
Knowing that he may soon reach an age where competing at the highest level of European football becomes too much of a hurdle for him, the report suggests that the player could potentially be open to joining either of the two interested leagues at some point in the near future.
As a result, the Catalan club have had to reportedly amp up their search for a new striker who can end up taking over from the Polish ace right after him. Names such as those of Viktor Gyokeres have appeared as possible successors to the Barcelona striker, but there have been no concrete contacts made so far.
Furthermore, it must be remembered that it would be a difficult ask of Barcelona to recoup the transfer fee they originally paid to Bayern Munich for Lewandowski when they originally signed him now due to his age. Alongside that, the sporting loss from his departure would be an obvious void that would need an immediate successor to fill it.
