Barcelona’s goalkeeping situation has become one of the most complex issues the club needs to resolve as soon as possible.

Joan Garcia’s signing is already secured, pending the payment of his €25 million release clause. Wojciech Szczesny is believed to have agreed to a renewal, although it has not been officially confirmed.

As a result, Marc-Andre ter Stegen has the door open for an exit, although the captain, with three years left on his contract, refuses to leave the club.

Inaki Pena accepts his situation

However, unlike Ter Stegen, Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena has accepted that his time at the club is coming to an end – though no concrete steps have yet been taken towards his exit.

But according to Mundo Deportivo, even though he has one year left on his contract, Pena will not stay at the club just to leave as a free agent in 2026 and secure a signing bonus.

The 26-year-old La Masia graduate’s stance on his future is clear. He knows there is no place for him in the current squad and does not want to create conflict or pressure the club.

As such, Pena will not stay to run down his contract. His priority is to play and get regular minutes, and he is focused on leaving.

However, the Spanish goalkeeper will not move just for the sake of it. He is not willing to join a project that does not convince him. For him, the most important factor is finding the right sporting fit.

Initially, Celta Vigo and Galatasaray were linked with interest, but both appear to be focused on other goalkeepers.

Pena’s name also came up as a potential target for Valencia, though no formal offer materialised. With plenty of time left in the summer window, the La Masia product will wait for the right offer to arrive before making the switch.
