Memphis Depay was on the scoresheet as Barcelona claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Elche in La Liga on Saturday afternoon.
Xavi Hernandez’s side would have been desperate to get back to winning ways after suffering a 2-0 defeat away at Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.
And three points was virtually handed to them on a plate at Camp Nou, with Elche’s Gonzalo Verdu shown a straight red card after just 15 minutes for a last-man foul on Robert Lewandowski – one which resembled a crude rugby tackle.
Barcelona made the most of the advantage handed to them by the opposition and were 2-0 up before the half-time break.
Lewandowski opened the scoring from close-range in the 34th minute, one of two goals for the striker on the day, before Depay grabbed the team’s second just before the interval.
It was the Dutchman’s first goal of the season and it really was a thing of absolute beauty.
The former Manchester United forward bullied an Elche defender inside the box with an excellent display of strength and clever footwork, before firing the ball into the roof of the net.
, so much so that fans believe the skill on show has now become the player’s trademark move.
Check out the goal in all of its glory…
Not bad, eh? Depay makes it look so, so easy as well, which of course it isn’t – as anyone who’s tried to play football will know.
Here’s how fans on social media have reacted to the latest instalment of Depay’s trademark move, which is something we can see appearing on FIFA 23 at some point…

It was a slight shock that the Dutchman remained at Camp Nou for the 2022/23 season, as he was constantly linked with a move away over the summer months.
The arrivals of Lewandowski and Raphinha, as well as the return to fitness of Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele’s contract extension, looked as if it would spell the end of Depay’s Barcelona career.
But the 28-year-old will continue playing his football in Catalonia until at least January and against Elche, he proved that he has a lot to offer Xavi’s side.
