It’s no secret that Barcelona admire Valencia’s Jose Gaya to a great extent. The team from Catalonia went after his signature during the previous January window and continued to do so until the start of the ongoing season, as they are of the idea that Gaya is someone who can replace Jordi Alba without any muddle.

As it turns out, however, their dream might as well end in the coming weeks, with journalist Ferran Correas, while writing for SPORT, has claimed that the 27-year-old is advancing towards signing a new deal with Valencia itself.

Over the last couple of transfer windows, Barça have been extremely vigilant about Gaya’s ongoing deal with Valencia, which ends in June 2023.

They were of the opinion that their patience would bear fruit, meaning that by the end of the current season, they will manage to add him to their roster for free. Regardless of what’s been expected, negotiations between Valencia and Gaya over a new contract are believed to be advancing at a good pace.

In fact, the aforementioned outlet says the agreement could be sealed anytime in the coming weeks. This was confirmed by their manager, Gennaro Gattuso recently when he said, “Gaya’s renewal? I think that Gayà will accept our proposal and sign a new deal.”

For now, it is believed that Gaya has no intention of leaving in the first place. For that, however, he wants to be valued in a rather competitive environment.

According to sources, if he agrees to sign the proposed five-year deal with Valencia, he will become the highest-paid footballer in the squad. At this very moment, the internal discussion within the Valencia management is being done over the player’s termination clause.

All this means Barcelona will be forced to finally give up on Gaya. At the same time, however, the movement comes as a blessing in disguise for a certain Alejandro Balde who has made the left-back spot his own.

But even after that, one needs to ponder what the management will do beyond the ongoing season when the likes of Jordi Alba Alba and Marcos Alonso will both be gone.
