As we enter the final phase of the 2023/24 season, Barcelona appear set to end the campaign without any trophies.

The Blaugrana lost the Spanish Super Cup final in January and were eliminated from the Copa del Rey soon after. Last week, their hopes in the UEFA Champions League and La Liga came crashing down following defeats to PSG and Real Madrid.

Joao Cancelo was one of the players who struggled in both matches last week and attracted a lot of criticism as a result.

After giving away a crucial penalty against PSG, he was unable to keep Lucas Vazquez quiet against Real Madrid and copped a lot of criticism.

Hector Fort to get more minutes

Owing to Cancelo’s recent poor form as well as the fact that there is not much left to fight for in the season, Hector Fort is expected to get more minutes with the Barcelona first team, reports SPORT.

Fort, 17, is one among several La Masia talents to have made their first-team breakthrough this season and the teenage full-back has made a solid impression despite his age.

A right-back by trade, Fort has been used as a left-back on a few occasions by Xavi and the youngster has delivered solid displays to repay the faith shown by the manager.

In all, Fort has played eight times for the Barcelona senior team, registering two assists. The 17-year-old academy ace could now stand to gain more minutes in the business end of the season.

Barcelona still want to keep Cancelo

Cancelo’s recent form has raised concerns about Barcelona wanting to keep him at the club beyond the current season, with doubts emerging as to whether the investment in him would be worthwhile.

However, despite some concerns, Barcelona director Deco is continuing to advocate for the Portuguese international’s continuity, although any move will depend on reaching an agreement with his parent club, Manchester City.
