Barcelona midfield star Fermin Lopez has reportedly made a “final decision” regarding his future amidst interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

United chasing Lopez

United are considering making an addition to their midfield department after wrapping up the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Throughout United’s pre-season, it has become glaringly clear that the team desperately needs reinforcements in midfield. Ruben Amorim’s side has struggled to dictate play, with build-up proving to be a major issue.

The Red Devils’ top midfield target appears to be Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, but that deal is proving to be too difficult to get over the line, due to the Seagulls’ extremely high asking price. Nevertheless, United remain in contact with Baleba’s representatives as they study the feasibility of a transfer swoop.

But, there have also been suggestions that United want Lopez.

Lopez has enjoyed a gradual rise at Barcelona, catching the eye with his silky performances in the middle of the park. He notched an impressive six goals and provided an additional five assists in 28 La Liga appearances last term.

A report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that United were prepared to fork out €70m to land the Spaniard.

Chelsea and Aston Villa were two other clubs mentioned to be firmly in the chase for Lopez.

However, it seems that all of Lopez’s suitors are on track to be disappointed, with a fresh report claiming that he is not interested in leaving Barcelona.

Lopez makes “final decision” on his future

According to Sport, “Fermin’s intention is to stay at Barcelona, at least for this season. Fermín López isn’t planning on changing teams and is convinced he will ultimately succeed at Barcelona.”

“Only if the club advised or suggested a change of scenery, for financial or strategic reasons, would he consider seeking his fortune at one of the several clubs that have expressed strong interest in recent months.”

“The first was Emery’s Aston Villa, who made a strong bid to sign him; then, as we know, Manchester United and even Chelsea. Premier League heavyweights who, despite everything, haven’t dampened the Andalusian’s hopes of succeeding at Barcelona.”

Sport say that United’s offer for Lopez – both at personal and club levels – was the most significant.

It’s understood that Barcelona were willing to let Lopez move to Old Trafford for €70m, but the 22-year-old’s refusal to leave may have now completely shut the door on such a transaction.
