Barcelona ran riot away to Elche to secure a fourth victory in their last five games.

Despite sitting bottom of La Liga, Elche did not make it easy for Barça in the opening exchanges. A solid block in front of the 18-yard box proved a tough nut to crack for Xavi’s men.

They finally found their way through, albeit in scrappy fashion, just before the 20 minute mark. A scramble in the box saw the ball fall to Robert Lewandowski, and the craft veteran managed bundle the ball into the back of the net to snatch the lead for the visitors.

It was much of the same from Barça after the restart, and they doubled their lead in style before the hour mark. A slick move was capped off by Ansu Fati firing home from the edge of the box to double the visitors’ lead.

The game was all but put to bed by Lewandowski and Ferran Torres in the final 25 minutes, as their respective close range strikes drove the final nail into Elche’s coffin.

Another sensational victory for Xavi’s side sees them extend their lead at the top of La Liga to 15 points for the time being. With no more European football to clog up the schedule, it should be smooth sailing towards the title from here.
