Former Juventus star Andrea Barzagli feels Inter centre-back Francesco Acerbi has reached the ‘peak of maturity’ and warns the Bianconeri about the ‘San Siro’s impact.’

Juventus and Inter meet at the Stadio Meazza on Sunday in a key game in the Serie A title race.

Juventus sit second in the table, one point below the Nerazzurri who also have a game in hand.

During his latest interview with Tuttosport newspaper, Barzagli said that the upcoming meeting at San Siro won’t be decisive in the Scudetto race.

“If Juventus lose, it won’t be over, but it would give a considerable push to Inter, who would feel stronger. It’s not a game that will determine the champion, but it can surely shift the balance,” said the 2006 Italy World Cup winner.

“It’s a very important game, for the clubs, for the fans, and right now, for the table as well. The impact this game can have is huge so it will be a very intense week. Every detail will make players think about the match, even just a friend asking for a ticket.”

What’s his advice for the footballers?

“Handle the San Siro effect, this is more true for Juventus,” said the ex-defender.

“The impact of this stadium is huge because the fans’ push is strong, especially in these games. Juventus players must make sure to hold tight and remain focused; then, the noise will decrease during the game.

“The impact of 80,000 Inter fans will be huge and powerful. The stadium is enormous, you look at the stands and you understand how important the game is.”

Who has a better team, Inter or Juventus?

“Inter, but the gap is minimal. Juventus have strong players with high salaries, but Inter have signed players who reached their peak over the years. Juventus have been able to involve young players who have had a tremendous impact.”

What’s Barzagli’s take on Juventus star defender Gleison Bremer?

“I knew he was a strong defender. He is making no mistakes this season, but he must be consistent; that’s the difference between a good and an excellent defender.”

And what does he like the most about Inter’s centre-backs?

“Acerbi has reached the peak of his maturity. He is reliable and with a strong personality. Bastoni is also improving, he is the perfect player for a team like Inter given his ability with the ball at his feet and his personality. He can still improve.”

Juventus and Inter picked up a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at the Allianz Stadium in November when Lautaro Martinez cancelled out Dusan Vlahovic’s opener in the first half.
