Several outlets including Marca and Relevo suggest that Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who won the EURO 2024 championship with Spain over the summer, is expected to take home the main prize instead.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Vinicius Jr is no longer expected to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on Monday evening after learning that he will not win the flagship prize.

Although officially unconfirmed, Relevo report that there is a possibility that no Real Madrid representatives attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony tonight as a result of Vinicius Jr’s snub.

The same thing also happened the last time Cristiano Ronaldo was nominated. The Portuguese made the 30-player shortlist in 2019 while still with Juventus, but eventually finished third behind Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk, and decided to boycott the ceremony as a result.
