France Football’s award for the best men’s player during the 2021/22 season, the Ballon d’Or, was presented to Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema yesterday evening during a prize-giving ceremony in Paris. His first Ballon d’Or trophy, Benzema succeeds Lionel Messi who won his seventh title last season as the award switches from an annual cycle to a seasonal one. Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mané, who moved to Germany from Liverpool this summer, and Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City completed to podium.
