Why were they nominated?

It really wouldn't be a list of the best players from the past season without including someone from the unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen side.

Xabi Alonso's men were sensational all campaign long, claiming the Bundesliga title without losing a game and then doing the double by bagging the DFB Pokal in Berlin.

One man though, stood out amongst the rest and that was Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz's unique blend of balance, pace and limitless skill has made him a world class talent at just 21. The sky really is the limit.

Best moment since the start of 2023/24?

It was a season of triumphs for Wirtz but comfortably his best moment for Leverkusen this past season came on matchday 29.

Die Werkself were well clear of Bayern Munich and Stuttgart at this point but needed a win against Werder Bremen to confirm their first ever title.

And it seemed Wirtz was on a personal mission that day with the youngster bagging his debut senior hat-trick in a 5-0 win.
