Los Angeles FC recently confirmed the signings of two of Europe’s biggest stars in Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini.

The LA based club are building up quite the squad in the ‘City of Angels’ as the two footballing icons join former Arsenal man Carlos Vela.

The club currently sit top of the Western Conference by a five point margin to Austin FC, but it seems resting on their laurels is out of the question and they’ll be looking to kick on in their bid to become MLS Champions for 2022.

Bale signs on the dotted line

The signing of the Welshman ends months of speculation regarding his uncertain future in the game.

It’s no secret that he’d fallen by the wayside at Real Madrid and was looking for regular first team football ahead of his country’s appearance at the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

In LAFC he’s got that in abundance with the regular season scheduled to end on October 9. However given their strong league position, it’s likely they could go all the way through to the MLS final on November 5 – sixteen days prior to the start of the World Cup.

It’s also been reported by The Mirror that Bale has taken a £27 million pay cut to join the MLS team.

The Welshman was receiving an annual salary of £28 million in Spain, however in LA he will take home just over £100,000 per month.

Which, admittedly, is nice to see that it’s not all about the money for Bale.

And when you consider what he’s bringing to the MLS in terms of his footballing ability and enhancing the status of the American game, it’s a great move for all parties involved.

MLS best combined XI

As you can imagine, Bale and Chiellini are arguably the best players in the entire league, so it’s a massive coup on LAFC’s part to get the deals over the line.

And the two additions add plenty more quality to a combined XI that seems to be progressing more rapidly year on year.

Some team, ey? Nearly all of that line up have left a strong impression on the European football scene, whilst those who haven’t have really excelled in the States.

It’s great to see the beautiful game blossoming in a nation that has historically not viewed it as one of their primary sports.

Who knows how much further it could grow in the years to come…
