Balance the books: 2 players Derby County may cash in on this summer

Following last night's 2-1 defeat away at Plymouth Argyle, Derby County have just one win in their last three league matches.

Indeed, that has seen the Rams slide back down to sixth in the League One standings at present, occupying the last play-off spot in the third tier.

With a four point gap over seventh-placed Wycombe, the club's fate is still very much in their own hands at this stage, however, even if they go on to achieve a play-off spot, promotion is not guaranteed.

The play-offs can be a lottery at times and Derby could well be playing League One football again next season, in which case, some tough decisions will have to be made.

With that in mind, below, here at FLW, we've discussed two players the Pride Park outfit could look to cash in on this summer.

Max Bird

One player the club could potentially look to sell in order to bring in some cash this summer is young midfielder Max Bird.

The 22-year-old is currently contracted to the club until 2024, meaning he is entering the final 12 months of his current deal this summer.

With Derby in League One, it could be unlikely he pens fresh terms, and so he could be a prime candidate to be moved on this summer.

Coventry City were reportedly interested in his services last summer so it will be interesting to see if Mark Robins' side still hold an interest this time around.

Eiran Cashin

Eiran Cashin is a player in a similar situation to Max Bird.

Cashin, too, sees his current deal at Pride Park expire in the summer of 2024, and there has been previous transfer interest in his services.

For example, back in January, Paul Warne was forced to come out and deny that Norwich City had made a move for the 21-year-old.

There is often no smoke without fire, though, so you would assume that there is some interest there to some degree.
