Manchester United defender Eric Bailly says the players are right behind manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Bailly admits the current players do struggle, however, with the weight of demands to match the success of past great United teams.

The Ivory Coast defender is back in training with United after being forced to the sidelines with injury while on international duty in October. Quizzed about United's perceived inconsistency, Bailly offered an astute response.

He told Mundo Deportivo: "United compete against their own past. A team used to winning the Premier or even the Champions League. And it's been down for too long. But now is not the time to look back but to the future and try to turn things around because there is plenty of talent.

"In the league we have to add three at a time, although sometimes it costs like last weekend against West Brom, and then we will see if it is enough to compete for the title."

Bailly says the players are right behind manager Solskjaer. The Norwegian is coming up to two years in the United job this month and with victory at Southampton his team set another club record.

United had equalled the previous best winning-streak in away league games of seven with the 3-1 success at Everton. That existing record was set between April and August in 1993.

On Solskjaer, Bailly added: "We have learned how to overcome adversity because the dressing room is with Solskjaer. He is a close guy who has a good relationship with everyone and understands the football player's codes. He knows when one is not well and he has added a lot of value since he came."

Solskjaer is currently on a deal to 2022, having committed to a three-year contract in March 2019.
