First meeting with Blau-Weiß Linz

Our UEFA Champions League heroics in Lisbon are behind us now, and we are back to our everyday business tomorrow at home to Blau-Weiß Linz in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. Referee Walter Altmann is to get the game against the newly promoted side started at 17:00 CET.

After a difficult start - the poorest of a newly promoted side since 2000 - the Linz side are showing signs of finding their feet in the unusual surroundings of the Austrian top flight. A win against WSG Tirol (4-2) and draw against Altach (1-1) have provided a platform for Blau-Weiß to build on. With experienced campaigner Ronivaldo on board, the side appear to be moving on from the blow of losing Matthias Seidl and Fally Mayulu, even if there are areas they clearly can improve upon. Their 19 goals conceded means they have the leakiest defence of the current season, having hit the second-fewest shots (44) and second-fewest passes (2,293) – our boys are in the top two of both of those categories.

Further encouragement for our first ADMIRAL Bundesliga encounter against the Linz side is that we are unbeaten in 13 matches on home soil against newly promoted sides - and unbeaten in 45 home matches in a row in total. Andi Ulmer & Co have, incidentally, won all of their first three matches at the Red Bull Arena since the new league set-up with 12 teams.

Gerhard Struber's side will be looking to extend their 100% home record to a fourth match by shifting their focus from a magical Champions League night to the clash. Anyone staying at home can follow the match with live text updates on our website.

Those who want to be there to see it all live can find everything they need to know on coming to the stadium here:

Linz have no doubt gained some confidence with their away win last week at Tirol, and they will want to throw everything at us. They don't have much to lose in the clash. We want to break their resistance as soon as possible. For us it's all about recovering well after the demanding match in Lisbon so that we are fresh enough for the match. It is our clear aim to win at home and take three points.

Gerhard Struber

Blau-Weiß Linz are in the swing of things now after a few difficulties to start the season with, and they showed that they can perform away from home. We want to put a brake on their momentum and continue our good home run. We won't be thinking about the match at Benfica on Saturday - it's behind us already.
