Bacary Sagna. Remember him?

The 34-year-old has been without a club since he was released by Manchester City at the end of last season but now he’s finally found a surprising new home.

The former French international has signed a contract until the end of the season with Benevento, who are currently 12 points adrift of safety at the bottom of Serie A.

If all goes well, the deal could be extended until June 2019 and though he won’t be available for Sunday’s clash with Napoli, the ex-Arsenal man could make his debut in next weekend’s trip to Roma.

Sagna began his career at Auxerre in his homeland before moving to Arsenal in 2007. After seven years with the Gunners, he left to join Manchester City in 2014. He has won one FA Cup, one English League Cup, one Coupe de France and been capped 65 times by his country.

But if he can somehow help his new club avoid relegation this season, that might just be the biggest achievement of his career to date.
