Azpilicueta situation to be decided this week as Chelsea finally get into gear after takeover hiatus
the Chelsea News
The takeover of Chelsea by new owners a couple of months ago, followed by their more recent clearout of all of the top names in the club’s structure, has put a lot of the club’s pending transfer in and out on hold.
Now that the dust is settling, those issues can be brought back to the table, and among those first to hit Todd Boehly’s desk will be that of Cesar Azpilicueta.
Marca insist that the club captain’s future will be decided this week, once he finds out whether the new bosses will allow him to leave to Barcelona for a nominal sum, as was promised by the previous regime.
On the one hand, they won’t want to start their ownership by going against the will of a loyal club servant. On the other, they’ve failed to make any signings at all so far and have lost three first team players, so losing another might not be feasible.
We think we’re likely to know a lot more in the days to come.
