Ernest Poku is moving to Bayer Leverkusen and has signed a contract with Erik ten Hag’s team until mid-2030.

The 21-year-old Poku now follows Ruben van Bommel (PSV), Jayden Addai (Como) and David Møller Wolfe (Wolves) in heading for the door as AZ cash in on their young talents. This deal is reportedly 12 million euros which could rise by a further two million with potential bonuses.

Poku joined AZ’s youth academy in 2019 and made his first-team debut in August 2021. The winger made 78 appearances for the first team, scoring six goals and providing assists on 13 occasions.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said of the club’s new acquisition: “Ernest is an excellent winger who, with his speed and dribbling ability, will have a significant impact on our attack. He’s crafty and assertive; with his speed and dynamism, Ernest significantly expands our footballing options.”
