After Real Betis’ 4-3 defeat to Celta Vigo at the weekend, new signing Ayoze Pérez discussed joining the club in quotes reported by Marca.

“In my two games here I’ve clearly seen what the support of the fans is like, how well-known we are in the world, and I’m prepared to help the team wherever possible.”

When asked whether Betis was always at the top of his list, Pérez said: “Absolutely, 100%. This was always my priority. I had a great conversation with Manuel [Pellegrini], and at this point in my career it’s very important to have the support of the manager. We know how well Betis have been doing recently and I wanted to be part of that.”

Pérez has shown a high degree of versatility throughout his career, and he was asked in which position he felt the most comfortable.

“My natural position is that of a number nine, but I think it’s to my favour and that of my team that I can play as an attacking midfielder, or on the wing… it opens up a wide variety of possibilities.”

Since the player is only at the club on a six-month loan, there were questions about his plans for the future.

“I’m not thinking about what could happen at the end. I know what’s needed of me, I’m very conscientious that I need to do things well and help the team in as many ways as possible. From now until the end of the season there will be time for me to think about these sorts of things.”

Betis will play Almería on Saturday as they continue their push for the Champions League places.
