Manchester City could lose Aymeric Laporte on a permanent transfer this summer, following frustrations over game time from the Spanish international.
Laporte started his first Premier League match for Manchester City in almost two months on Saturday evening, featuring from the start in a 3-1 win over Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Athletic Bilbao man has seen his involvement and contributions within Pep Guardiola’s squad severely limited due to the exemplary form of Nathan Ake at left-back, teh resurgence of Ruben Dias and John Stones, as well as the consistent presence of Manuel Akanji.
However, limits to game time often do not come without consequences in the cases of some players, and a new report this week has detailed how the ongoing season has left Aymeric Laporte less than satisfied with his situation in east Manchester.
According to the information of Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail, Manchester City officials will not stand in the way of Aymeric Laporte, should he hold a desire to leave the Etihad Stadium in the coming months.
It is detailed that the 28 year-old has been left ‘frustrated’ by a lack of game time, and Manchester City ‘do not want unhappy players within the squad’ – a stance that has been taken in the cases of first-team stars in previous transfer windows.
Last summer, Manchester City secured deals for Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Oleksandr Zinchenko – despite all three players having played an integral part in successes under Pep Guardiola in recent seasons.
The same fate could now be sealed for Aymeric Laporte – who is attracting interest from La Liga giants FC Barcelona, as well as Juventus, who appear keen on the services of a new centre-back to revive their place in Serie A.
There is a possibility that Aymeric Laporte could see his game time drastically improved across the course of the coming weeks, with Manchester City’s fixture schedule unrelenting, and Pep Guardiola needing to rotate his squad as best as possible in order to retain fitness.
The Catalan coach and his players travel to face Bayern Munich in the second-leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night, before taking on Sheffield United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
