Aston Villa and Tottenham are targeting a move for Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte in the summer transfer window, as per reports.

Laporte has been heavily linked with a likely departure from the Etihad Stadium after falling down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order in defence this season.

In an interview with Telegraph Sport ahead of this weekend’s Champions League final, the 29-year-old was coy on his long-term future in the north-west as he admitted he has been frustrated over a lack of game time in what could be a treble-winning campaign for the Premier League champions.

Laporte joined Manchester City from Athletic Bilbao midway through the 2017/18 campaign and has been a focal asset to Guardiola throughout his tenure in England.

However, the form and consistency showed by the likes of John Stones, Nathan Ake and summer signing Manuel Akanji have limited Laporte’s minutes this term.

There have been indications that Laporte is eyeing a new challenge past the current season amid reported interest from Barcelona, who are also eyeing swoops for Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol has been mentioned as a potential replacement should Aymeric Laporte part ways with the Blues at the end of the season.

As per 90min, Aston Villa have held talks over a deal to sign Laporte in the summer transfer window, with Tottenham also keeping tabs on the five-time Premier League winner.

There is a belief that Laporte, who is high on Tottenham’s transfer shortlist, could be available for a fee reaching £40 million.

Eyebrows were raised when Laporte was spotted tearing up amidst Manchester City’s title-winning celebrations following their 1-0 triumph over Chelsea a few weeks ago.

It seems likely that Manchester City will allow the Spaniard to leave for regular first-team football should an acceptable offer be tabled for his services.

However, it remains to be seen where Laporte sees his future as he weighs his options ahead of a key few months for the centre-half’s future.
