Axel Tuanzebe had a frustrating 2020/21 season.

In August 2021, Tuanzebe signed a new two-year contract with Manchester United.

But, despite extending his stay at the Red Devils, he was shipped out on loan to Aston Villa shortly after.

Tuanzebe featured heavily under Dean Smith at the start of the season but his fortunes changed when Steven Gerrard was installed as manager.

The defender fell out of favour and was recalled from his loan and sent to Napoli.

But Tuanzebe struggled to make his mark in Italy as he played just twice for the Serie A outfit.

Now 24, Tuanzebe is currently preparing for the 2022/23 pre-season.

The Englishman will be looking to have a much better campaign and he’s clearly been putting in the work over the summer.

Tuanzebe has been hitting the gym hard over the past few months and the hard work appears to be paying off.

United’s players will report back for pre-season training on June 27.

Tuanzebe will be among those returning and will be looking to impress now boss, Erik ten Hag.

United had their problems in defence last season, with Harry Maguire struggling badly.

Even Raphael Varane, who was signed for big money from Real Madrid, did not perform to the level expected of him.

It will be tough for Tuanzebe to force his way back into the first-team fold but you just never know.
