With so much action expected at Chelsea this summer, and with so many major updates on top targets Dean Huijsen and Liam Delap coming this week, the question of what to do in goal has slightly fallen by the wayside.

It shouldn’t. If there’s anything we need to make sure we get right this summer, it’s the situation between the sticks. Robert Sanchez has had a quiet few weeks by his standards, but that shouldn’t make us forget how much of an issue goalkeepers have been over the last two seasons. They’ve cost us a lot of points, and if we miss out on the Champions League nobody should forget how much of a role that may cost us.
The briefs coming from within the club have been consistent – Chelsea aren’t looking to buy anyone new. Between Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders, they’re apparently happy with what they’ve got.
Assuming that’s true, the natural course of action to us would be to bring back Petrovic from his loan and have him competing with Sanchez to be first choice. Jorgensen then goes out on loan, and Penders also his development elsewhere.
But this afternoon we’ve seen a rumour from France which claims that Monaco are interested in signing Petrovic, which would really upset the apple cart. Chelsea could get good money for him after a superb season with sister club Strasbourg; but we don’t want to see him sold unless that money goes directly towards signing a replacement.
As it stands, Petrovic looks like our best option to be first choice keeper next season, and we don’t want him going anywhere unless someone proven to be better is coming in.
