AC Milan failed to deliver in their biggest game of the season, losing the Coppa Italia final to Bologna last night.
In a final, it is understandable if you are outclassed, which was the case last night. However, the performances were not acceptable. Milan were simply not outclassed as they had no class themselves.
It was a performance that we have seen several times this season, which Sergio Conceicao stated after the game. However, that does not make it easier to swallow. In fact, it probably makes it much worse.
This morning, the Italian papers have given ratings to the players performances, but we’ll start with Conceicao, who was given a 5 from Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport, whilst Corriere dello Sport gave the Portuguese a 4.5, as seen below.
That is where the closeness really ends, with each paper picking a different ‘Man Of the Match’, if such an award can be given out after a performance like last night’s.
Gazzetta dello Sport saw Maignan as the best player on the night, awarding him a six. For Tuttosport, it was Leao who was given the highest rating at a 6.5, whilst Alex Jimenez earned a six from CorSport.
The differences continue on the worst performance on the game – Christian Pulisic was awarded a 5 from Gazzetta, Jovic scored lowest for Tuttosport with a 4.5, and Theo got a 4 from Corriere dello Sport, the lowest rating across any of the papers.
A dismal night, which the ratings reflected.
