In a tragic incident that has saddened football fans around the world, it has been officially announced that Portuguese striker Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 after a traffic accident with his brother Andre, who also died at the age of 25 and is also a professional footballer.
A few hours after the horrific accident in Zamora in the north-west of Spain, Spain's Guardia Civil released an official statement on the cause of the unfortunate accident that claimed the life of their Portuguese superstar, who had won the Premier League title with Liverpool and the UEFA Nations League title with the Portuguese national team as well.
Guardia Civil published an official statement quoted by the BBC saying: "The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking. It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora. The car caught on fire and the two occupants were killed"
An emotionally shaken Liverpool FC released an official statement tonight addressing the unthinkable - the sudden loss of star forward Diogo Jota. The club described itself as "completely heartbroken" by the tragedy, vowing to wrap Jota's grieving family, devastated teammates and affected staff in full organizational support during this incomprehensible time.
