Portugal extend Martinez’s perfect start

Scorers: Bernardo 44′, Fernandes 77′, 90+3

Portugal extended Roberto Martinez’s unbeaten start with a comfortable win in their Group J qualifier with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to have put the Seleção ahead by pouncing to head home João Cancelo’s cross from the right but was flagged offside.

Edin Džeko offered the Dragons’ best response when Gojko Cimirot picked him out for a volley which flew narrowly over Diogo Costa’s crossbar.

But Bernardo finally broke the deadlock in Lisbon on the stroke of half-time with a chipped finish from Bruno Fernandes’ defence-splitting pass.

Fernandes continued Portugal’s threat after the interval with a brace in the final 15 minutes as Martinez’s side maintained their 100% qualifying record.

Lukaku spares Belgium’s blushes

Goals: Lukaku 61′; Mangala (OG) 21′

Romelu Lukaku’s second-half equaliser could not prevent Belgium losing their 15-game winning streak in European qualifying against Austria.

Saturday’s encounter in Brussels pitted the top two teams of qualifying Group F as the visitors’ captain David Alaba made his 100th international outing.

The Red Devils were undone midway through the first half when Orel Mangala opened the scoring by turning Michael Gregoritsch’s low volley into his own net.

Dodi Lukebakio spurned Belgium’s best chance of an equaliser with a shot which was deflected wide despite Romelu Lukaku being well-positioned in the area.

Domenico Tedesco’s side started the second half brighter as Wout Faes glanced a header over from Yannick Carrasco’s corner in the opening 10 minutes.

That perseverance paid off shortly after the hour mark when Lukekabio teed up Lukaku for a drilled equaliser but they still remain behind Ralf Rangnick’s side.

Scots’ comeback overshows Haaland’s goal return

Scorers: Haaland (PEN) 62′; Dykes 87′, McLean 89′

A Norway team featuring Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard was left stunned by a sensational Scotland late show in Group A.

Scotland travelled to Oslo hoping to extend their 100% start in Group A but for much of the game they sat back and allowed Norway to control possession.

The only real chance of a dull first half fell to Haaland when Ola Solbakken found him with a good cross in the 13th minute, but the striker could only head straight at goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Into the second half and Norway were awarded a penalty on the hour mark when Haaland was hauled down in the box by Ryan Porteous.

Porteous was booked for his trouble, and Haaland slotted the spot-kick away to end his five-match scoring drought.

It was a match of few chances for Scotland but they got their equaliser just minutes before the end when Lyndon Dykes showed great persistence to capitalise on a loose ball in the Norway defence to poke past the goalkeeper.

And with the very next chance they scored a dramatic late winner when Dykes laid off for Kenny McLean to slot home superbly for 2-1.

That victory leaves Steve Clarke’s side top of Group A with three wins from three, while Norway still await their first victory of the qualifying campaign.
