Aurélien Thcouaméni spoke to Téléfoot in the build up to France’s World Cup opener against Australia on Tuesday, and admitted that the pressure will be on him to perform with the absence of Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kanté from the France squad.

When asked about these two vital absences, Tchouaméni told TF1 journalist Saber Desfarges that he recognises that “with Paul and N’Golo not being there, eyes will be on me” to perform at the required level in midfield for Les Bleus.

Tchouaméni looks set for deep lying midfield position in Didier Deschamps’ starting line-up, as tested in recent France training sessions where he would work in a midfield three with Antoine Griezmann and Adrien Rabiot playing as a pair of number eight’s, leaving the Real Madrid midfielder to lie deeper and add defensive support to the back four as well as is fellow midfielders. Whilst it feels like a big responsibility, Tchouaméni seems at ease yet focused on the task ahead in France’s opener against Australia on Tuesday.
