Speaking to Téléfoot ahead of France’s 2022 World Cup opener against Australia, Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni spoke about his original goal of making France’s World Cup squad, and his mentality going into the opener against the Socceroos on Tuesday.
The former Monaco and Bordeaux man spoke about how he set himself the goal of making the World Cup but warned that shouldn’t rest on his laurels, and that the team have to “stay focused on what we have to do on the pitch” both as a collective and as individuals in order to “meet expectations” of France fans.
Tchouaméni looks set for deep lying midfield position in Didier Deschamps’ starting line-up, as tested in recent France training sessions where he would work in a midfield three with Antoine Griezmann and Adrien Rabiot playing as a pair of number eight’s, leaving the Real Madrid midfielder to lie deeper and add defensive support to the back four as well as is fellow midfielders.
