According to Florian Plettenberg, Augsburg are looking to sign former Borussia Dortmund defender Marius Wolf.
It is understood that the Fuggerstädter have been trying to lure the 29-year-old to Bavaria for the last few weeks, but reaching an agreement with Wolf has been considered a difficult task for Augsburg to achieve.
Nevertheless, their chances of signing Wolf have dramatically increased, and they are now leading the race for his signature.
Regardless, they do still face competition in order to get a deal over the line. The German defender is believed to have received proposals from clubs in Italy and Saudi Arabia.
The five-time German international is set to make a final decision on his future in the coming days, with Augsburg working on a deal to secure Wolf’s services.
During the 2022–23 campaign, Wolf established himself as an integral part of Dortmund’s backline, forcing his way into the national setup. Despite this, last season, the 29-year-old struggled to replicate his stellar form from the previous year as Dortmund allowed his contract to run down.
