Al Qadsiah snatched third place in the Roshn Saudi League table in style with an emphatic 3-0 victory at Al Wehda’s King Abdulaziz Sports City on Friday.

The side from Al Khobar had suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Al Taawoun in their most recent league outing, but in Mecca, they showed their attacking intent from the beginning. Not long had gone when with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beat Al Wehda goalkeeper Abdullah Al Owaisher with a powerful left-footed strike only to watch the ball cannon off the crossbar.

Minutes later, Al Qadsiah opened the scoring after a quick series of passes exchanged between Turki Al Ammar and Cameron Puertas, allowing the latter to fire from a narrow angle into the back of the net.

Al Wehda thought they had restored parity early in the second half when Craig Goodwin sent Youssef Amyn through on goal with an exquisite through pass, but the Iraqi international struck the woodwork from a similar position to Aubameyang’s earlier chance.

On 67 minutes, a defensive mix-up involving Ali Makki and Jawad El Yamiq allowed Aubameyang to snatch the ball from Al Owaisher, who had no option but to bring down the Gabonese forward after he had just about managed to feed the ball to Julian Quinones to tap it in.

However, the referee reverted to VAR and awarded a penalty for the visitors. Aubameyang’s initial attempt from 12 yards was saved but he was first to the rebound, burying it home to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

Deep in added time, Al Qadsiah’s victory was signed off by Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez, who got on the end of a perfectly weighted Quinones through ball and finished at the second time of asking, having initially been denied by Al Owaisher.

Al Qadsiah’s victory, coupled with Al Nassr’s 1-1 draw at Al Taawoun, sends Michel’s men two points clear in third place, while Al Wehda remain 17th, in the drop zone on goal difference.
