Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang praised Mikel Arteta and his ideas for the team after their first match under the new head coach against Bournemouth on Thursday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored Arsenal’s equaliser in their trip to Bournemouth in midweek. The striker and club captain played on the left to accommodate Alexandre Lacazette on the day.

It’s a position Unai Emery used him in regularly, but not one that was consistently successful. However, Arteta’s use of Bukayo Saka further up the pitch in possession allowed Aubameyang to drift inside more than he could under Unai Emery.

All the same, you did wonder how Aubameyang would feel about it all. His brother didn’t seem too happy about Arteta’s appointment, and the striker might not like the idea of playing out wide as the team’s top scorer.

Thankfully, Aubameyang suggested after the game he’s ready to buy into Arteta’s ideas.

“He’s started with the basics and we’re working a lot tactically,” Aubameyang said. “He has great ideas, so we’ll try to follow him by working hard. He’s a good man. He was a player like us so there’s a good feeling in the dressing room.

“Everybody was working hard. We had a good attitude and we were trying to play how he wants to play, how we want to play. We are on a good way. Hopefully, we can improve. We know the next games are quite hard but we are confident.”

It certainly isn’t going to get any easier in the coming weeks. Arsenal face Chelsea then Manchester United within four days, then Chelsea again later in the month. The players need to get on board, and as captain, Aubameyang needs to lead them in that.
