The European champions hold a 3-1 aggregate lead over Jacob Neestrup’s side in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. They will be hoping to book their place in the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League with a win at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Next weekend will see Manchester City take on Liverpool at Anfield. By the time Sunday’s game comes around the anticipation for the game will be at fever pitch. But before City can begin to think about Jurgen Klopp’s side they must fully focus on the task at hand against FC Copenhagen.

Pep Guardiola is focused on FC Copenhagen not Liverpool

Speaking after his team’s Manchester derby win Pep Guardiola refused to comment on next weekend’s meeting with Liverpool. He told the media he was focusing on FC Copenhagen before he contemplated next weekend’s clash with Liverpool. Guardiola told the media: “We have FC Copenhagen, not today, but tomorrow they will be on my mind before we talk about Liverpool.”

The City manager was also aware of the danger posed by Jacob Neestrup’s side. He further added that while City hold a 3-1 aggregate lead anything can happen especially in the Champions League. He added: “I know 1-3 is a good result but we have to be careful. We won 1-3 in Leipzig in the group stage and within 10 minutes we were 0-2 and a potential red card or a complication or whatever. So we have to be careful, and today in my mind is not Copenhagen. However tomorrow morning it’s just Copenhagen and after Wednesday night I will think about Liverpool.”

Next weekend’s massive clash with Liverpool looms large on City’s fixture list. But they must first book their passage to the Champions League quarter-finals before they begin preparations for another potentially epic clash with Liverpool.
