Chelsea attacker Fran Kirby will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Kirby has spent the last nine years with Chelsea after joining the club from Reading for an undisclosed fee in summer 2015. The England international has netted an impressive 115 goals in 205 appearances in all competitions for The Blues.

The 30-year-old has played a major part in Chelsea’s success in recent years. She has won 15 trophies with the club; those being seven Barclays Women’s Super League titles, five Adobe Women’s FA Cups, two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups and one FA Women’s Community Shield.

The player is very much a Chelsea legend but the time has now come for her to take up a fresh challenge in the game.

After Kirby’s Chelsea departure was announced, the club’s general manager, Paul Green said “Fran has been a hugely important player for us over the last nine years. She has played an integral role in the club’s success, winning 15 trophies and earning numerous individual accolades.

“She is the club’s leading goalscorer in the modern era and leaves Chelsea with legendary status. We sincerely thank Fran for her contributions and wish her well for the future.”

Kirby joins Norwegian international defender Maren Mjelde in leaving Chelsea this summer.
