Atlético Madrid drop interest in Premier League star | OneFootball

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have called time on their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero.

That’s according to The Athletic, who have on Friday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at the Metropolitano.

The name of stopper Romero had of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the summer to date.

This came after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that, amid a search for reinforcements at the back, Diego Simeone and co. had identified the World Cup winner as the ideal signing.

Not only that, but it was added that Romero himself was also keen on the prospect of linking up with Atléti.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the English media late this week is anything to go by, those of a Rojiblancos persuasion need not get their hopes when it comes to the 27-year-old’s potential arrival.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘We have learned that Atletico Madrid, who had been leading the chase for his services all summer, have decided to stop their pursuit of the Argentina international. They are already starting to look for alternatives in defence.’
