After a thrilling victory on Sunday, the Decano is now approaching Racing Club at the top of the Superliga Argentina table.

Rodrigo Aliendro opened the scoring with a volleyed effort after a corner kick in the 14th minute.

Goalkeeper Cristian Lucchetti fouled Maximiliano Meza and Independiente equalised from the penalty spot in the 35th minute when Fernando Gaibor converted.

Aliendro grabbed his second and retook the lead just eight minutes later. The 27-year-old midfielder scored in the 43rd minute on a rebound after his team-mate’s shot in the area was blocked by the Independiente defence.

Tucumán held the advantage coming out of half-time but the visitors quickly hit back. Emmanuel Gigliotti scored Independiente’s second equaliser on a fantastic assist by Gaibor in the 52nd minute.

Just as Independiente could start to imagine a full turn-around, Pedro Pablo Hernández shot his team in the foot. The Argentine-born Chilean, who was similar sent off at the end of Septemeber against Banfield, earned his marching orders and and his recklessness seemed to undone lots of hard work from the visiting team.

Jorge Figal got tangled together with Luis Miguel Rodríguez and referee Patricio Loustau pointed to the spot. Rodríguez stepped up to convert a penalty for Atlético Tucumán in the 85th minute to give the home side a late lead.

With the visiting goalkeeper pushed up for an attacking corner kick, centre back Yonathan Cabral hit a long pass for Fabio Álvarez to chase before he finished in the empty net to stretch the score to 4-2 in favor of the home team.

The result puts Atlético Tucumán on 19 points behind just Racing Club (23 points) though the Decano still has a game in hand over the league leaders.

Despite the fight shown to equalise twice, indiscipline doomed Independiente to defeat and a relatively lowly 12th place in the Superliga Argentina table.
