There are seven days left in the January transfer window and we likely won’t know whether Edinson Cavani will stay at Paris Saint-Germain or leave until the very last day.

According to a report from Le Parisien, Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo indicated the negotiations with PSG continue but that he’s not sure if or when a deal will get done.

“I would like to see all great players at Atlético and Cavani is a great player,” Cerezo said. “I don’t know if this will happen, I imagine that they [PSG] will continue to negotiate and that nothing will be known before the last day.”

If it were up to Cavani’s parents, the deal with Atléti would be done by now. His father, Luis Cavani, wants his son to play and said that he “would like him to go to Atlético.”

His mother, Berta Gómez, was a bit more accusatory of PSG in an interview with Diario AS (via OneFootball).

“I do not understand why they [PSG] want him to stay and then play six minutes. “They are not behaving well with him, with everything he has given PSG in the seven years he has been there.”

“Now he is angry because he does not understand that they put obstacles in the way of him leaving.”

The situation is getting uglier by the day but publicly, Cavani has remained professional as he works his way back from a groin injury as you can see in Colin Dagba’s tweet from Thursday.

PSG’s sporting director, Leonardo, has confirmed that Cavani has handed in his transfer request but the right deal has to be negotiated. PSG needs their all-time leading scorer for depth reasons but for the right price, likely €20 million according to ESPN, the club could be convinced to sell. They’ve already turned down an offer from the La Liga side for €10 million as reported by Marca.

In a move that will likely rub salt in the wound, PSG unveiled their PSG x Jordan fourth kit on Thursday with Mauro Icardi as the main figure in the advertising. Icardi arrived last summer on loan and is one of the reasons why Cavani has spent more time on the bench than on the pitch—injuries being the other.

PSG travels to Lille OSC this Sunday and it will be very interesting to see if Cavani is included in the squad at all or if he remains out until his transfer can be sorted out.
