With the fixture between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid looming large over the footballing world, an interaction of Saul Niguez with Pablo Pereira on Twitch is grabbing headlines. Among the many other points discussed in the broadcast, the 26-year-old was asked his opinion as to who he thinks is the best football player ever.

Atletico needs to avoid drop points against Barça to win the La Liga title. To do so, they will have to stop the six-time Ballon D’or winner, Lionel Messi. Saul acknowledged that it would be an arduous task considering the Argentine’s record against Los Rojiblancos.

“For today’s people, there is no doubt that the Best is Messi. There can be no doubt. People who are older, after 40, can tell you Maradona, Pelé, Di Stefano,” said the Atletico midfielder, before continuing:

“But since I believe that football evolves, do what it does. He is the best player in history, not just current. I admire Cristiano for how he works, how he is, but I think Messi, at a football level, has no comparison,” added Saul, describing Leo’s greatness.

Saul has been one of the most important players in Diego Simeone’s system. The Spaniard has featured in 37 matches this season, scoring 2 goals and providing a solitary assist. Recently, he has also been linked to Manchester United as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba.

The 27-year-old has clearly hinted that Diego Simeone’s men will surely devise a special plan to stop the Barça legend in his tracks. Leo has been in spectacular form as of leading Barça’s attack. He will surely look to add to his record of 32 goals in 42 games against the Madrid-based team.

The clash on the weekend will go a long way in determining the club which will walk out as Spanish champions at the end of the season. Currently, Atletico are 2 points above Barça and Real, and Real are ahead of Barça because of their superior head-to-head record.

With Real Madrid facing Sevilla on the weekend, a win for Barça on Saturday could very well mean that they will be on the top of the table after the end of the game week.
