Atlético Madrid made their presence known right from the first whistle as they pressed their opponents hoping to break the deadlock early on.

Unfortunately for Rayo Majadahonda, one of Atleti’s initial plays resulted in goalkeeper Gorka Giralt being forced off with an injury only four minutes in.

Diego Simeone’s side went on to control the match and a mix-up at the back allowed Matheus Cunha to slot the ball into an open net.

As Atleti continued with the high press, Renan Lodi eventually made things 2-0 before Luis Suárez broke his nine-game goal drought by adding a third.

Coming out after the break the match continued in Atleti’s favour with João Félix and Antoine Griezmann coming off the bench to make their return to action.

While Rayo Majadahonda continued to stifle the majority of the threats, the Frenchman went on to add a fourth but minutes later suddenly left the pitch in tears and headed straight down the tunnel.

Having made all five substitutions, Simeone’s men were forced to play the final 15 minutes with 10 men.

Yet despite being a man down Atleti continued to cruise past their opponents and Félix added his name on the scoresheet to cap things off 5-0.
