Atlético Madrid were unable to successfully appeal Mario Hermoso’s red card, report Marca.

Mario Hermoso received two yellow cards in the space of two minutes in the final moments of Atlético Madrid’s match against Real Madrid before the international break at the Estadio Metropolitano.

Los Colchoneros tried to appeal the referees’s decision to show the second yellow card, as they do not believe that Mario Hermoso’s foul against Dani Ceballos was worthy of a booking. However, the appeal was rejected by the Appeals Committee and the club will now turn to the Administrative Court of Sport in the hope that they will rule differently.

As things stand, Mario Hermoso will miss Atlético Madrid’s next game in La Liga against Sevilla at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, which is set to take place on the 1st of October.

Atlético Madrid currently find themselves 7th in the league and the game in Andalucía will be a must-win fixture if they want to have any chance of staying in the title race.
