One of the key talking points of the current transfer window has been the difficulty faced by La Liga clubs in registering new signings. The strict salary limit imposed by the club has complicated the procedure, forcing many clubs to sell players.

Barcelona are the club most affected by the new implementation because of their high wage bill. However, Atletico Madrid are not completely free from this problem either.

According to reports from Javi Gomez, Los Rojiblancos have registered all but one of their players for the upcoming season. The exception being Barcelona loanee Antoine Griezmann.

Nevertheless, the club and La Liga are confident that there will be no problem with the Frenchman’s registration. The procedure will be completed in the coming days, before Atletico Madrid’s opener against Getafe.

While Felipe has also not been registered, the Brazilian faces a more significant problem as his contract extension has not yet been announced. The 33-year-old’s deal was supposed to be automatically renewed based on the number of appearances, but an official confirmation is pending.

Atletico Madrid must now look to generate revenue to ensure Griezmann’s registration. This can be done through player sales, wage reductions or other such levers.

The Frenchman moved to Wanda Metropolitano on a two-season loan from Barcelona last year. In his first year back under Simeone, Griezmann made 29 appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the process.

Atletico Madrid’s domestic campaign begins on August 15th when they take on Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Needless to say, the club will be keen to register their star forward well before the opener.
