A grand encounter now awaits FC Barcelona as they travel to the Metropolitano to face off against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. Following their last victory over Girona, La Blaugrana will be heading into this game with a lot of confidence. However, both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will be aiming for victory here.

Set to be the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final fixture, both sides come into this game with everything to lose. Nothing apart from a win favors either team, and that is why both Hansi Flick and Diego Simeone will be trying their best to avoid any possible mistakes or miscalculations.

Match Overview:

The first leg ended with a 4-4 scoreline at the Montjuic Stadium following an intense game between the two teams. However, that is now in the past and Barcelona simply cannot afford to cry over a result that could have made this game slightly better for them.

Instead, the Catalan giants must now treat this game as a single opportunity to reach the Copa del Rey final as long as they just beat their opponents. However, that is must easier said than done given just how formidable of a team Atletico Madrid is.

These two sides have already met on three occasions already this season. The first was a 2-1 victory for Atletico Madrid at the Montjuic Stadium in La Liga. After that, both sides met in the Copa del Rey and it ended in a 4-4 draw during the first leg. Most recently, however, Barcelona managed to get their revenge and won 4-2 at the Metropolitano for their last La Liga encounter of the season.

Moreover, in terms of form, Barça is arguably the best team in Europe right now. Since the start of 2025, La Blaugrana have not lost a single game across any competition. Moreover, even across the last five games, Barcelona have not shown any signs of slowing down.

With two wins over SL Benfica in the UEFA Champions League, and then three La Liga wins in a row over the likes of Atletico Madrid, CA Osasuna, and Girona, Hansi Flick’s team is on a mission. They have scored 15 goals across those five games, and have conceded only four goals.

As for Atletico Madrid, their form has been quite negative in terms of their recent outings. They lost their first UEFA Champions League game against Real Madrid, before winning the second leg in normal time but ultimately losing on penalties. However, things have been just as bad in La Liga as well.

After a loss to Getafe, they ended up losing to Barcelona and then drew their game against Espanyol recently as well. Across those five games, they have scored six goals and have conceded eight goals.

However, even though the morale of the team might be low, they are still a team with exceptional players and a lot of quality to offer on the pitch. Moreover, whenever Diego Simeone is involved, his team can simply never be underestimated.

Both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have troubled each other this season, but this game is a season-defining encounter. Whichever side wins will end up in the Copa del Rey final, and that is a clear shot at adding a major trophy to their season’s achievements. Thus, neither side will be back off without putting up a fight.
