Atletico Madrid are set to seal the long-awaited signing of Conor Gallagher in the coming days, and he will become the fourth big-money arrival at the Civitas Metropolitano, after Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sorloth and Julian Alvarez. However, he’s unlikely to be the last.
With 10 days to go until the transfer window closes, Atleti are still on the lookout for a new left-sided central defender. They’ve had David Hancko as their top target all summer, but until now, an agreement has yet to be reached with Feyenoord.
Multiple offers have been rejected, but Atleti have not been deterred. Other targets have been considered, but Hancko is the priority. As per Ruben Uria, one more offer will be submitted to Feyenoord in the coming days – if it’s rejected, Los Colchoneros will end their interest in the Slovakian, and move on to other options.
It was apparent during Monday’s match against Villarreal that Atletico Madrid desperately needed a left-sided centre-back. Le Normand did not look comfortable in that role at La Ceramica, and there’s no doubt that Diego Simeone would prefer to use a specialist there going forward.
