The coming summer transfer window will be a defining one for La Liga. Not only are Barcelona and Real Madrid expected to make big moves to hasten their transition phases, but Atletico Madrid, too, seem set to bring in reinforcements.

Vacancies in two positions take up the headlines at Wanda Metropolitano, centre-forward and midfield. The latter gains more priority given the confirmed departure of Hector Herrera.

The Mexican international has already signed a pre-contract with Houston Dynamo in the MLS and will join the American side after his current contract ends in June. Needless to say, Los Rojiblancos are expected to go all out to sign a replacement for the veteran in June.

According to reports from Fichajes, Diego Simeone has identified three players who can fill the void created by Herrera’s exit.

Mohamed Camara is the first player considered by the Spanish club. The 22-year-old has started 16 leagues games for RB Salzburg this season, providing two assists in that period. The Mali international is valued at around €25 million, a reasonable fee in today’s market.

The second player, and probably the most strongly linked one, is Boubacar Kamara. The 22-year-old is on the final year of his contract with Olympique Marseille and does not intend on renewing in France.

He is widely seen as the next big defensive midfielder and would be a perfect addition to Simeone’s setup.

The list is rounded off with Portuguese midfielder Xeka. The Lille player is also set to become a free agent in June and has a versatile profile. In 17 league starts, he has already scored twice and has created as many big chances.
