The representative of Atlético Madrid star Memphis Depay has today moved to vehemently deny the claims that his client was responsible for paying the prison bail of former Barcelona defender Dani Alves.

Brazilian Alves, of course, took his place front and centre in the headlines on Monday afternoon.

This came after the 40-year-old was afforded provisional release from the Brians 2 prison in Catalunya.

Alves had been behind bars since January of 2023, in relation to an incident in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona the prior December.

After last month being found guilty of sexual assault, his prison sentence was set at four and a half years.

It was subsequently announced last week that The 21st Section of the Barcelona Court of Justice had accepted the request of Alves’ defense to release him on provisional bail.

As much comes whilst the 40-year-old’s appeals are judged.

The bond for his release was set at €1 million.

Amid reported financial troubles on Alves’ part, it was in turn claimed in the media on Monday that the man responsible for paying the Brazilian’s bail was former Barcelona teammate, and current Atlético Madrid star, Memphis Depay.

The pair are known to have maintained a close friendship over recent years.

As alluded to above, however, on Tuesday, reports of as much have been definitively shut down by Depay’s entourage.

After being contacted directly by Telecinco, Sébastien Ledure, the Dutchman’s agent, issued a blunt response to suggestions that his client was behind the €1 million aid to Dani Alves:

“This is ‘fake news’. It is false news, it is not true at all.”

Ledure went on to call for the media to “correct at an official level” the information “on behalf of the Memphis environment”.
